SONOFF MINI ONE -- Matter WiFi Smart Switch, 16A, Detach Relay (MINI-1GS)

Native Apple Home in a switch that fits behind your wall plate. The SONOFF MINI ONE (MINI-1GS) is the Gen5 Matter-over-WiFi member of the MINI Extreme family -- a compact 16A smart relay that pairs directly with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings with no hub or bridge. It keeps everything that made the MINI series the go-to retrofit switch -- external switch input, Detach Relay mode for smart bulbs, dual L-Out terminals -- and adds a new OpenEdge local web console so you can configure and control it from any browser without an app or cloud account. Home Assistant users get MQTT Discovery for a fully local setup, plus open JSON-RPC, HTTP, WebSocket and MQTT APIs. Built-in overheat protection and delay power-on after outages make it load-shedding safe. If you also want to measure the load, step up to the MINI ONE PM (MINI-1GSP). Neutral wire required.

Neutral wire required. The MINI-1GS needs both live and neutral at the switch box. Recommended wall box depth is 60 mm. If your wall switch has no neutral, use the MINI-ZB2GS-L instead.

Key Features

  • 16A Rated, 100-240V -- up to 3,840W resistive; a step up from the 10A MINIR4M, so it handles heaters, kettles, pool pumps and heavy lighting loads with margin
  • Matter over WiFi -- certified Matter device; add it straight from the Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings app; Siri on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch works natively
  • OpenEdge Local Web Console -- open the device's IP in a browser to control it, change settings, set up MQTT and update firmware; no eWeLink account or cloud required
  • Home Assistant via MQTT Discovery -- point it at your broker and the switch entity appears automatically; 100% local, no cloud dependency
  • Open API -- JSON-RPC 2.0 over HTTP and WebSocket, plus MQTT, for Node-RED, openHAB, ioBroker and custom integrations
  • Detach Relay Mode -- decouples the wall switch from the relay so smart bulbs stay powered; the physical switch becomes a scene trigger instead of cutting power to your Hue or WiFi bulbs
  • Dual L-Out Terminals -- two internally-paralleled live outputs make it easy to feed two separate light fittings or circuits from one relay without a terminal block
  • External Switch Input -- keep your existing wall switch for physical control; supports rocker (toggle) and push-button (momentary) modes
  • Delay Power-On -- after a power cut, waits a configurable delay before re-energising the load; protects compressors, motors and your DB board from inrush when Eskom returns
  • Power-On State -- choose ON, OFF or last state after an outage
  • Overheat Protection -- built-in temperature sensor cuts power automatically if the device gets too hot
  • Schedules, Timers and Scenes -- countdown, loop and sunrise/sunset timers; eWeLink smart scenes with SONOFF sensors
  • Fits SA Wall Boxes -- 39.5 x 33 x 16.8 mm; fits EU round boxes and 86/120-type boxes used in South Africa
  • OTA Firmware Updates -- via eWeLink or the local console

Perfect For

🍎

Apple Home Households

No bridge, no workaround. Add it from the Home app, name it, and "Hey Siri, turn on the kitchen lights" just works. Shows up on Apple Watch and in Control Centre.

💡

Smart Bulb Circuits

Detach Relay mode keeps power flowing to Hue, LIFX or WiFi bulbs permanently. The wall switch becomes a scene button -- press it and the bulbs change colour or brightness instead of going dark.

🏠

Home Assistant, Fully Local

MQTT Discovery means no eWeLink cloud, no SONOFF LAN integration and no polling. Enable MQTT in the web console, point it at Mosquitto, done.

🔋

Load Shedding Resilience

Delay power-on staggers your loads when the grid returns so everything does not slam on at once. Set the pool pump to wait 60 seconds, the geyser contactor to wait 120.

Dual L-Out tip: The two L-Out terminals are internally connected to the same relay -- they switch together. Use them to feed two light fittings from one MINI without a junction block, not to switch two circuits independently. For two independent circuits, see the MINI-2GS.
Matter vs eWeLink: You can use both at once. Pair it with Apple Home via Matter for Siri and the Home app, and keep the eWeLink app for schedules, Detach Relay configuration and smart scenes with SONOFF sensors. The local web console works regardless.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the MINI-1GS and the MINI-1GSP?
They are the same 16A Matter switch in the same body. The MINI-1GSP adds bi-directional power metering (voltage, current, watts, kWh) and overload / overvoltage protection. If you want to see what a load is costing, get the MINI-1GSP. If you just need to switch it, the MINI-1GS saves you money.
What is the difference between the MINI-1GS and the MINIR4M?
The MINI-1GS is the Gen5 successor. It raises the rating from 10A to 16A, adds a local web console, MQTT Discovery for Home Assistant, dual L-Out terminals and delay power-on. The MINIR4M remains a solid budget Matter switch for lighting.
Does it work with Apple Home without a bridge?
Yes. It is a native Matter-over-WiFi device. Open the Apple Home app, tap Add Accessory, scan the Matter code and it pairs directly. Siri, Apple Watch and Control Centre all work. No SONOFF bridge or hub is involved.
Does it work with Home Assistant without the cloud?
Yes. Open the OpenEdge web console, enable MQTT and enter your broker details. Home Assistant's MQTT integration discovers it automatically. It also works through the Matter integration. No eWeLink account is needed for either.
What is Detach Relay mode?
Normally the wall switch toggles the relay, which cuts power to the light. In Detach Relay mode the relay stays on permanently and the wall switch becomes a trigger that only sends a signal -- so smart bulbs keep power and you can use the switch to fire a scene or toggle the bulbs over WiFi or Zigbee instead.
Can the two L-Out terminals switch separate circuits?
No. Both L-Out terminals are wired to the same relay and switch together. They exist so you can connect two fittings without a separate junction block. For two independent circuits use the MINI-2GS.
Do I need a neutral wire?
Yes. Live and neutral are both required. Most SA homes built after the 1990s have neutral at the switch; older homes often do not. If you have no neutral, the MINI-ZB2GS-L is the no-neutral option.
Will it fit in my wall box?
At 39.5 x 33 x 16.8 mm it fits behind most SA 4x2 switch plates and in 86/120-type and EU round boxes. SONOFF recommends a 60 mm deep box. Very shallow boxes may be tight -- measure before ordering.
What happens after load shedding?
Two settings help. Power-On State decides whether the load comes back ON, OFF or to its last state. Delay Power-On adds a wait before re-energising -- useful for pumps and compressors so they do not all start at the same instant the grid returns.
