Yes! This dimmer is specifically designed and certified for 220-240V AC power at 50/60Hz, which is the South African electrical standard. It will work perfectly and safely in your home.
Do I need a hub or bridge to use this?
No! The MINI-DIM connects directly to your WiFi and works with the eWeLink app out of the box — no hub or bridge required. You get dimming control, scheduling, power monitoring, and voice control immediately. If you want to use it with Apple Home or for advanced local automations, you can optionally connect it via the Matter protocol to a Matter-compatible controller such as the Home Assistant Mini Server, Apple HomePod, Google Nest Hub, or Amazon Echo (4th gen+).
What is Matter and why should I care?
Matter is the new universal smart home standard that works with all major platforms. Instead of buying Apple-only or Google-only devices, Matter products work with everything — Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and more. Buy once, use everywhere! The MINI-DIM already works with eWeLink over WiFi, but Matter gives you the option to integrate with other ecosystems too.
Do I need a neutral wire for installation?
Yes, this dimmer requires a neutral wire in your electrical wall box. Most modern South African homes built after 2000 have neutral wires installed. If you're unsure, we recommend having a qualified electrician check before purchasing.
Will this work with my LED downlights?
Most likely yes! This dimmer supports up to 200VA of dimmable LED loads using trailing-edge dimming technology. Make sure your LEDs are specifically marked as "dimmable" — non-dimmable LEDs won't work. After installation, run auto-calibration for smooth, flicker-free performance.
Does it work during load shedding?
Like all WiFi devices, the dimmer needs power to operate. However, if you have a UPS or inverter system, the dimmer will continue working normally! You can also use smart scheduling to automate your lights around load shedding times — perfect for SA homes.
