SONOFF MINI ONE PM -- Matter WiFi Smart Switch with Power Metering, 16A (MINI-1GSP)

The MINI you have been waiting for: 16A switching, bi-directional energy monitoring, and native Matter over WiFi in a body that still fits behind a wall switch. The SONOFF MINI ONE PM (MINI-1GSP) is the Gen5 flagship of the MINI Extreme series. It adds real-time power metering to the proven MINI form factor so you can see exactly what a geyser, pool pump, heater or lighting circuit is costing you -- and because the metering is bi-directional, it also tracks solar export. Matter certification means it pairs directly with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings with no bridge. Home Assistant users get MQTT Discovery for a fully local, cloud-free setup, plus a built-in web console and open HTTP / WebSocket / MQTT APIs. Built-in overload, overvoltage and overheat protection cuts power automatically when something is wrong. ESP32-C6 inside. Neutral wire required.

Neutral wire required. The MINI-1GSP needs both live and neutral at the switch box or junction box. If your wall switch has no neutral, use the MINI-ZB2GS-L instead.

Key Features

  • 16A Rated, 100-240V -- switch up to 3,680W at 230V; suitable for geysers via contactor, pool pumps, heaters, kettles, lighting circuits and more
  • Bi-Directional Energy Monitoring -- real-time voltage, current, active power and accumulated kWh; measures both consumption and generation so it can monitor a solar feed or a battery inverter output
  • Matter over WiFi -- certified Matter device; pairs natively with Apple Home (Siri, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch), Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings without a hub or bridge
  • Home Assistant via MQTT Discovery -- point it at your MQTT broker and it auto-creates the switch, power, voltage, current and energy entities; 100% local, no eWeLink cloud needed
  • Built-in Local Web Console -- configure the device, view live readings and manage settings from any browser on your LAN; no app required
  • Open APIs -- HTTP, WebSocket and MQTT interfaces for Node-RED, openHAB, ioBroker and custom integrations
  • Overload and Overheat Protection -- automatically cuts power when current, voltage, power or internal temperature exceed configurable thresholds; protects both the device and your appliance
  • Energy Charts and Export -- daily, monthly and yearly consumption graphs in the eWeLink app with CSV export; data stored locally while offline and synced when the connection returns
  • External Switch Input -- wire in your existing wall switch for physical control alongside app and voice; supports rocker and push-button modes
  • Schedules, Timers and Scenes -- countdown timers, loop timers, sunrise/sunset schedules and eWeLink smart scenes
  • Power-On State -- choose ON, OFF or last state after a power cut; essential for load shedding
  • ESP32-C6 MCU -- latest-generation chip with more memory and faster response than previous MINI models
  • Ultra-Compact -- 39.5 x 33 x 16.8 mm, 27.3 g; fits in standard SA switch boxes and junction boxes
  • OTA Firmware Updates -- stays current via eWeLink or the local console

Perfect For

🌡

Geyser Cost Tracking

Fit it behind the geyser isolator (via a contactor for the element). See exactly how many kWh your geyser burns per day, schedule it off during peak tariff hours, and set an overpower alert that catches a failing element.

☀

Solar Feed Monitoring

Bi-directional metering with negative-value configuration tracks export from a small solar inverter or monitors a single solar circuit. Cheapest way to get solar production into Home Assistant's Energy dashboard.

🏊

Pool Pump Scheduling

Run the pump on a schedule, track its daily kWh, and get an alert if current spikes -- an early warning for a blocked filter or seized motor. Power-on state set to OFF prevents it restarting unexpectedly after load shedding.

💡

Apple Home Lighting

Matter means true native Apple Home control without a bridge. "Hey Siri, turn off the patio lights" works directly, and the energy data shows which lighting circuits are worth switching to LED.

Home Assistant tip: Enable MQTT in the device's web console and point it at your Mosquitto broker. Home Assistant's MQTT integration discovers the MINI-1GSP automatically with switch, power, voltage, current and energy entities. Add the energy sensor to the Energy dashboard as an individual device for per-appliance cost tracking. No eWeLink cloud, no SONOFF LAN integration needed.
Load shedding tip: Set Power-On State to "OFF" for anything with a motor or heating element (pool pump, geyser, heater). When Eskom returns, the device stays off until you or your schedule switch it on -- no surprise start-ups and no inrush surge when the grid comes back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the MINI-1GSP and the MINIR4M?
Both are Matter WiFi switches in the same size body. The MINI-1GSP adds 16A capacity (vs 10A), bi-directional power metering, overload protection, a local web console, MQTT Discovery for Home Assistant and a newer ESP32-C6 chip. If you only need on/off control, the MINIR4M is cheaper. If you want to see what the load is costing you, choose the MINI-1GSP.
Can it switch a geyser directly?
A standard 3-4 kW geyser element draws 13-17A at 230V, which is right at the 16A limit. We recommend using the MINI-1GSP to drive a contactor for the element rather than switching it directly. The contactor coil draws almost nothing, the MINI still meters the full load through its own supply path when wired correctly, and you get a long service life.
Does it work with Home Assistant without the cloud?
Yes. Enable MQTT in the local web console and point it at your broker. Home Assistant's MQTT integration auto-discovers the device with switch, power, voltage, current and energy entities. It also works via Matter. No eWeLink account required for either route.
Can it monitor solar production?
Yes. The metering is bi-directional. Set the device to report negative values for generation and it will track export from a solar inverter or monitor a dedicated solar circuit. Ideal for feeding small solar systems into the Home Assistant Energy dashboard.
Do I need a hub?
No. It connects directly to your 2.4 GHz WiFi. Matter pairing to Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa is done straight from those apps. A SONOFF Matter Bridge is only needed if you want to pull Zigbee SONOFF devices into Matter -- it is not needed for this WiFi device.
Do I need a neutral wire?
Yes. The MINI-1GSP needs live and neutral. Most SA houses built after the 1990s have neutral at the light switch; older homes often do not. If you have no neutral, the MINI-ZB2GS-L is the no-neutral option.
What happens to energy data during load shedding?
When the device loses power it obviously stops metering. When it loses only WiFi or internet, it keeps logging locally and syncs the data once the connection comes back, so your daily totals stay accurate.
Can I use my existing wall switch?
Yes. Wire your existing switch to the S1/S2 input terminals. It works with normal rocker switches and push-button (momentary) switches. The app, voice assistants and the physical switch all stay in sync.
