Powered by USB-C at 5V for normal operation, with a built-in 600 mAh lithium backup battery that takes over automatically the moment mains power is cut. This matters in South Africa: load shedding is exactly when your security is most likely to be tested. When USB power returns, the battery recharges automatically. In silent standby the backup lasts up to 300 days, and even after months on battery it will still sound at full 105 dB when triggered.

Important: your Zigbee hub also needs backup power for scenes to fire during an outage — pair with a UPS or a hub on always-on hardware.

Does it need a hub?

Yes. The SNZB-09P is Zigbee 3.0 — it has no WiFi radio and must connect through a Zigbee gateway. Compatible options we stock include the SONOFF ZB Bridge-P, SONOFF Bridge Max, ZBDongle-Max, and Dongle-LMG21. It also works with Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT.

How loud is 105 dB?

Very loud — similar to a chainsaw or a live rock concert at close range. It will easily fill a typical home and can be heard from outside. The 4 adjustable volume levels let you scale it down for indoor notification use, or run it at full power for genuine security events.

Does it still work during load shedding?

Yes. The built-in 600 mAh lithium battery automatically takes over the moment USB power is lost. It keeps the siren armed and Zigbee-connected for up to 300 days in silent standby, and it can still deliver the full 105 dB alarm on battery. When power returns, it recharges automatically. Note: your Zigbee hub also needs to be running for automations to fire — pair with a UPS or a Home Assistant setup on always-on hardware.

Can I use it as a doorbell chime?

Yes. Set one of the 10 tones as your doorbell sound, drop the volume to a lower level, and link it to a wireless button at your gate. You get a full-house chime without wiring anything.

Does it work with Home Assistant?

Yes, via Zigbee2MQTT. Full device support is available in Z2M today. Native ZHA support has a pull request submitted but not yet merged — in the meantime ZHA users can add manual configuration via SONOFF's setup script.

How do I tell which sensor triggered the siren?

Assign a different tone to each sensor or zone. For example: garden gate = tone 1, kitchen leak sensor = tone 2, garage motion = tone 3. When you hear the alarm you know instantly which zone tripped without checking your phone. This is one of the SNZB-09P's most useful features versus a basic siren.

Can I install it outdoors?

No. The SNZB-09P is rated for indoor use only — there's no IP rating. For an outdoor deterrent, mount it just inside a garage or entrance where it's still audible from outside but protected from weather.

What if someone tries to disable it?

The siren has tamper detection — if the body is removed from its base, it sends a tamper alert to your hub. You can create an automation that triggers the siren itself, sends a push notification, or triggers another siren in a different location.
