💡 Presence vs Motion: A PIR motion sensor only sees movement — stop moving and it thinks the room is empty. The SNZB-06P24's mmWave radar detects a present person, so automations behave the way you'd expect. For best results with a completely stationary person, mount within 3 metres facing the seating/standing area.

Good to know: mmWave radar cannot reliably detect a sleeping person (breathing movement is too faint), and it does not filter pets directly — angle the sensor slightly upward to avoid pet activity zones.

How is this different from a normal motion sensor?

A PIR motion sensor only detects movement — once you stop moving it assumes the room is empty and switches off. The SNZB-06P24 uses 24GHz mmWave radar to detect a person who is present but still (it senses breathing-level movement), so your lights and automations stay active while you're actually in the room.

Do I need a hub?

Yes. This is a Zigbee 3.0 device with no WiFi. You'll need a SONOFF Zigbee gateway (ZB Bridge-P/U, NSPanel Pro, iHost) or a ZBDongle-E/P running ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant.

Will it detect me sitting completely still?

Yes, within roughly 3 metres facing the device it picks up micro-movements like breathing. Note it cannot reliably detect a sleeping person, as those movements are extremely faint.

Does it work with Home Assistant?

Yes — it's supported in ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT via a SONOFF Zigbee dongle, giving you full local control and access to presence, illuminance and zone data.

Does it work with Apple Home?

Yes, but via a Matter bridge — using a ZBBridge-U, iHost or eWeLink CUBE that exposes your SONOFF Zigbee devices to Apple Home over Matter. It is not a native Matter device on its own.

What happens during load shedding?

The sensor is USB-C powered, so it needs mains/USB power to operate. During an outage it's off; when power returns it reconnects to your Zigbee network automatically. Pair it with a UPS or backup supply if you need uninterrupted presence detection.
