Geyser Control (Up to 7kW)

Most SA geysers are 2-4kW (9-18A). The BASIC-1GSP handles up to 32A / 7,680W — even oversized 4kW elements with safe margin. Schedule heating around solar generation, track exactly how much electricity your geyser uses, and switch off remotely.

🔌

EV Charger Switching

Single-phase 32A EV chargers (e.g. 7kW wallboxes) fit comfortably within this device's spec. Use for time-of-use scheduling or as a smart isolator between the DB and your EV charger.

☀️

Solar & Load Shedding

Combine with your inverter/battery monitoring to automate heavy loads. Pre-heat your geyser when solar is peaking, throttle non-essential circuits during outages, and track real consumption per circuit.

🏊

Pool Pumps & Heat Pumps

Schedule pool pump cycles, control swimming pool heat pumps, or switch underfloor heating zones — all from your phone or via Home Assistant automations. Real-time power monitoring confirms loads are running as expected.

💡 Energy Monitoring Tip: Pair the BASIC-1GSP with Home Assistant's Energy Dashboard for a full picture of your geyser, EV, and heat-pump consumption. Compare hourly costs against your municipality's TOU tariff and identify your biggest expenses.
⚠️ Installation Note: Must be wired AFTER the air-circuit breaker (MCB) — NOT directly to the grid. Always install a correctly-rated MCB upstream. Electrical work in your DB board should be done by a qualified electrician. The terminals require 4–10 mm² conductors — proper crimping or ferrules are recommended.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this to control my geyser?
Yes — it's actually one of the best uses. Most SA geyser elements are 2kW (~9A) to 4kW (~18A) at 230V. The BASIC-1GSP handles up to 32A / 7,680W, giving you generous safety margin. Combined with real-time energy monitoring, you can see exactly what your geyser costs to run and schedule it around solar generation or off-peak tariffs.
Does it require a hub?
No. Matter over WiFi means it connects directly to your home WiFi (2.4 GHz). However, to add it to Apple Home, Google Home, or Home Assistant via Matter, you do need a Matter controller — that can be an Apple HomePod (mini or full), Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub (2nd gen), Amazon Echo (4th gen+), or Home Assistant with the Matter integration. For eWeLink-only control, no controller is needed.
What does Double-Pole switching mean and why does it matter?
Most smart switches only disconnect the Live wire. Double-Pole switching disconnects BOTH Live AND Neutral simultaneously, giving you full physical isolation. This is much safer when servicing the controlled appliance — the entire circuit downstream is dead. Particularly important for high-current applications like geysers and EV chargers.
Will it work with Home Assistant?
Yes — it supports Matter natively. Pair it through Home Assistant's Matter integration for full local control with no cloud dependency. You'll get switch entity, power/voltage/current/energy sensors, and overload threshold configuration. Works in HA's Energy Dashboard out of the box.
Does it work during load shedding?
If your DB board is on UPS/inverter backup and your WiFi router is up, yes — the BASIC-1GSP continues working. Matter LAN control means you don't even need internet. Once mains returns, it restores to your chosen Power-On State (On / Off / Last State).
What is the overload protection?
You can set custom thresholds in the eWeLink app for max current (up to 32A), voltage (under-voltage and over-voltage), and total power. If any threshold is breached, the BASIC-1GSP cuts the load automatically — useful as a secondary safety layer above your DB board's MCB, especially for sensitive equipment.
Can I install this myself?
If you're comfortable working inside a DB board with the mains isolated at the main switch, yes — installation is straightforward (clip onto DIN rail, wire L-in / N-in / L-out / N-out, and pair via WiFi). Otherwise, have a qualified electrician do it. The terminals require 4–10 mm² conductors so proper crimping/ferrules and torque are important. Always install a correctly-rated MCB upstream of the device.
What's the difference between this and the BASICR4?
The BASICR4 is a small inline relay rated 10A / 2,200W, designed to fit in a junction box or behind an appliance. The BASIC-1GSP is DIN-rail mounted, rated 32A / 7,680W, with double-pole switching and real-time energy monitoring built in. Use the BASICR4 for lights, fans, and small appliances; use the BASIC-1GSP for geysers, EV chargers, heat pumps, and any heavy load you want monitored.
