⚠️ Zigbee hub required. This plug uses Zigbee — it does NOT connect to WiFi directly. You need a Zigbee coordinator such as a SONOFF ZB Bridge-P, ZBDongle-P/E with Home Assistant, or a Tuya Zigbee hub. If you want no-hub WiFi operation, choose the BSD59 WiFi version or SONOFF S60 WiFi instead.

⚡ Key Features

  • Zigbee 3.0 Protocol — low-power, reliable mesh networking; pairs with all standard Zigbee coordinators and hubs
  • Real-Time Energy Monitoring — tracks voltage (V), current (A), active power (W), and cumulative energy (kWh) directly in your hub dashboard
  • 16A / 3,500W at 220V — handle heavy loads including heaters, kettles, tumble dryers, and pool pumps (within rating)
  • SA 3-Pin Plug & Socket — standard South African rounded 3-pin (SANS 164-1); plugs directly into any SA wall outlet
  • Zigbee Router — acts as a repeater in your Zigbee mesh, extending range and improving reliability for other Zigbee devices
  • Compact Design — 56×56×40mm rounded body; doesn't block adjacent sockets on most SA double-plug wall plates
  • Home Assistant Compatible — works with ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT, and deCONZ; energy data integrates directly into the HA Energy Dashboard
  • Voice Control — via your Zigbee hub's ecosystem (Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home depending on hub)
  • Physical Button — manual on/off toggle on the plug body; LED indicator shows power state
  • Power-On State — configurable to restore last state, always on, or always off after power returns (load shedding recovery)

🏠 Perfect For

📊

Load Shedding Cost Tracking

Monitor exactly how much power (kWh) your geyser, heater, or fridge uses per day/month. See the real cost impact of load shedding on your appliances. Data feeds into Home Assistant's Energy Dashboard.

🔥

Geyser & Heater Timer

Schedule your geyser or oil heater to run only during off-peak hours. Set automations: turn on at 4AM, off at 6AM, on again at 5PM. Track consumption to optimise your electricity bill.

📡

Zigbee Mesh Extender

Every Zigbee plug acts as a router, strengthening your mesh network. Place plugs around the house to extend Zigbee range to far-off sensors, door contacts, and motion detectors.

🏡

Appliance Automation

Turn lamps, fans, chargers, and Christmas lights on/off by schedule, sunrise/sunset, or presence detection. Combine with Zigbee motion or door sensors for automatic room control.

💡 Home Assistant Energy Dashboard: When paired via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT, the kWh data from this plug feeds directly into Home Assistant's built-in Energy Dashboard. Track individual appliance costs, compare monthly usage, and set energy budget alerts — all locally, no cloud required.

🔀 Zigbee vs ESPHome vs Tasmota — Which Firmware?

This is the same physical plug available in three firmware options:

⚡ Zigbee (this page) — pairs with any Zigbee hub/coordinator. Best for existing Zigbee mesh networks, Home Assistant ZHA/Z2M users, or SONOFF ZB Bridge owners. Low power, mesh routing, ultra-reliable.

🏠 ESPHome — WiFi direct, flashed with ESPHome firmware. Best for Home Assistant users who want native HA integration, OTA updates, and full local control. No hub needed.

🔧 Tasmota — WiFi direct, flashed with Tasmota firmware. Best for power users who want MQTT, advanced rules, and web UI. No hub needed.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work without a hub?
No. This is a Zigbee device — it requires a Zigbee coordinator (hub). Use a SONOFF ZB Bridge-P, ZBDongle-P/E with Home Assistant, or a Tuya/SmartLife Zigbee hub. If you want no-hub WiFi, choose the ESPHome or Tasmota firmware version, or the SONOFF S60 WiFi.
Does it fit SA wall sockets?
Yes. This is a standard South African 3-pin rounded plug (SANS 164-1). At 56×56mm, it's compact enough to avoid blocking the second socket on most SA double-plug wall plates.
Can I use it for my geyser?
If your geyser element draws under 16A (approximately a 3.5kW element at 220V), yes. Most standard SA geysers have 2kW elements (~9A), which is well within the 16A rating. For higher loads, use the POW Elite 20A or POWCT (100A).
Does it work with Home Assistant?
Yes. Pair it via ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation) or Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant. Energy monitoring data (V, A, W, kWh) is exposed as entities and feeds directly into the Energy Dashboard for cost tracking.
Does it extend my Zigbee network?
Yes. As a Zigbee router, it repeats signals to other Zigbee devices nearby. Place plugs around your house to strengthen the mesh and extend range to distant sensors. More routers = more reliable mesh.
What's the difference between this and the SONOFF S60 Zigbee?
Both are Zigbee smart plugs with energy monitoring. The S60 Zigbee has an EU Type E/F plug (requires adapter for SA sockets). This Rounded ZA plug has a native SA 3-pin plug — no adapter needed. This plug is also available in ESPHome and Tasmota WiFi firmware variants.
