🔧 How It Works

Simple Inline Installation

The eWeLink Basic is a relay switch — it wires inline between your power source and your appliance. Connect Live In, Neutral, and Live Out. Once powered, it creates a WiFi connection to your router and appears in the eWeLink app. From there, you can control it remotely, set schedules, and add it to smart scenes. Installation should be done by a qualified electrician.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a hub or bridge?

No. The eWeLink Basic connects directly to your 2.4 GHz WiFi router. Just download the free eWeLink app and pair the device. No additional hub, bridge, or gateway required.

Can I still use my existing wall switch?

Yes. Install the relay behind your existing switch. The physical switch continues to work as normal — you simply gain app control, scheduling, and voice control on top of it.

What can I control with it?

Any appliance up to 10A / 2,200W at 220V. Common uses include lights, fans, water pumps, irrigation systems, pool pumps, heaters, and appliance circuits. Not suitable for dimming — it's an on/off relay. Not suitable for geysers directly — see the POW R320 Elite for geysers up to 3 kW, or use a contactor for 4 kW geysers.

Does it work with 5 GHz WiFi?

No — the eWeLink Basic only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi. If your router broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under the same network name, you may need to temporarily disable 5 GHz during pairing, or ensure your phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz band.

Does it work during load shedding?

No — requires mains power. Once power returns, the device reconnects to WiFi automatically and retains all schedules and settings. You can set the power-on state in the app (on, off, or last state).

Can I use it for a geyser?

Not directly — geysers draw more current than the 10A relay can handle. For geysers up to 3 kW, use the SONOFF POW R320 Elite (20A with energy monitoring). For 4 kW geysers, you must use a contactor. The eWeLink Basic can switch a contactor coil to control a geyser indirectly, but this requires a qualified electrician.

Is it safe?

The eWeLink Basic features overload protection and a flame-retardant ABS casing. CE and FCC certified. Installation must be done by a qualified electrician — the device handles mains voltage and should not be installed by unqualified persons.

Can multiple people control it?

Yes. Use the Device Sharing feature in the eWeLink app to give family members control. Each person uses their own eWeLink account on their own phone.
