How does the NFC tag work?

In the eWeLink app, you create a Scene and set NFC as the trigger. During setup, you tap your phone to the NFC tag to program it. From then on, tapping the tag activates that scene — turning on/off lights, arming security, triggering any combination of eWeLink device actions.

Does it work through a phone case?

Yes — NFC signals pass through most standard phone cases. Very thick cases or metal cases may reduce range. Hold the phone's NFC antenna area (usually the upper back) close to the tag for best results.

Can one tag trigger multiple devices?

Yes. Each NFC tag triggers one eWeLink scene, but a scene can contain multiple actions — turn off 10 lights, arm sensors, close curtains, and set thermostat, all from a single tag tap.

Can I reprogram a tag?

Yes. Tags support 10,000+ write cycles. You can change which scene a tag triggers at any time by editing the scene in eWeLink and re-writing to the tag.

Does it work without internet?

The NFC tap itself is local, but the scene execution requires your eWeLink devices to be connected (either via cloud or LAN). For fully offline operation, consider the SONOFF R5 scene controller paired with a MINIR4 instead.

My phone won't read the tag — what do I do?

First, ensure NFC is enabled in your phone settings. Try holding different areas of the phone's back against the tag — the NFC antenna position varies by model. If the tag was factory-tested, use the "NFC Tools" app to erase it before configuring in eWeLink.
