For full smart home integration, yes. But the Hydro ONE also supports BLE proximity mode — connect your phone directly via Bluetooth for irrigation control, even without a gateway. For scheduling, automation, and remote access you'll need a Zigbee coordinator.

Will it fit my South African garden tap?

Yes. This is the SWV-ZFE (EU/BSP version) with G3/4-14 (¾") British Standard Pipe thread — the standard used on South African garden taps.

Can it water by volume instead of time?

Yes. The built-in flow meter (2–45 L/min) allows volume-based watering — set a target in litres and the valve shuts off automatically. A failsafe timer also stops if the target isn't reached within the time limit.
